Public Sector

Proven Energy small wind turbines offer significant advantages to public sector buildings, from schools to local authorities, offices and remote council housing. By adopting wind turbine technology, governments are able to reduce or eliminate energy costs and cut down carbon emissions to meet overarching targets.

Worldwide, governments are setting aggressive carbon reduction targets and adopting far-reaching policies in the area of climate change. In the UK, the Government has committed to ensure that Government office estate is carbon neutral by 2012.  The United States Government has committed to reduction in carbon emissions to 1990 levels by the year 2010, and over 172 countries across the world have ratified the Kyoto Protocol on climate change.

Public sector estate can become carbon neutral.  It can benefit from on-grid environmentally sound energy and generate revenue from excess energy production.

Public Sector Case Studies

Elephant & Castle

Southwark Council has aligned itself with the UK Government target of reducing CO2 emissions by 10% by the year 2010 and has taken action to adopt renewable energy technologies in the London borough of Elephant & Castle.  The main challenge was finding a technology that was suitable for an inner-city location.

Proven Energy recommended the installation of a Proven 6 wind turbine on the rooftop of the targeted development, Ashenden House, an eleven-storey residential building off the Old Kent Road, London.  The Proven 6 was chosen because it is both robust and reliable and has an impeccable safety record.

The turbine produces up to 12,000 kWh annually which will decrease Southwark Council’s reliance on conventional energy for this property and in turn reduce the carbon footprint in line with Government targets.

Glasgow School of Art

Dr Tim Sharpe, Co-director of the Mackintosh Environmental Architecture Research Unit, wanted to find a renewable energy solution suitable for inner-city use. As space was limited for in-town development, a device was required that would be safe and reliable.

Proven Energy recommended a Proven 2.5 wind turbine for the iconic Glasgow School of Art which was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The turbine is roof mounted and will produce up to 5,000 kWh of electricity per annum. The building will benefit from lower energy bills and the wind turbine will be used to demonstrate to current and future designers from the School of Art how to think and act green.

Public Sector Products

Our full product range has been installed successfully in public sector and Government estates. High energy users will benefit most from installation of the Proven 6 or Proven 15 wind turbines.

The Proven 6 is recommended for small to medium sized building applications while the Proven 15, the largest wind turbine in the range, is recommended for high energy users.  The Proven 15 is a good solution for schools as it contributes to the reduction of energy bills and can be used as an educational device. Roof-mounted turbines are ideal for inner-city locations, overcoming turbulence and space issues to provide a renewable energy source

Your Proven Energy reseller can advise you on the best model to install at your site.  They can all lead to reduction or elimination of energy costs.

Proven Energy systems are versatile and can be adapted to suit your needs, whether connected to the grid, charging a battery or powering a direct heating system.

CLIENT TESTIMONIALS

"Perhaps you had heard the news that we experienced a super typhoon last week with recorded top speeds of more than 60m/s (135 mph) in Kyushu area. Well, the Proven 2.5 at Taku high school, which is mounted on top of the school got the typhoon straight ahead and survived - while still running! So we have the proof that the Proven 2.5 can survive 60m/s (135 mph), even if mounted on a building. I find that reassuring."

Hartmut Hansson, Taku High School, Japan

"In 2006, Mountain View Montessori School was awarded a GreenPower grant from Desert Research Institute (DRI), Sierra Pacific Power Company (SPPCO) and the State of Nevada.  In September, 2007, a Proven© 2.5kW wind turbine was installed in conjunction with a solar array to provide power and educational resource to the school.  The integrated renewable energy system both feeds the school’s grid and provides power back into the local community grid.

The GreenPower renewable energy program is designed to support and promote the use and development of “green” sources of energy in Nevada, with an emphasis on educating Nevada’s K-12 population.  The installation includes Internet-based energy monitoring software and teacher training in renewable resources. This project is targeted at middle school age students. MVM is the first independent school in Nevada selected for this award.

The GreenPower award allows MVM to practice environmentally aware based education, modeling care and respect for the natural environment and guiding students to environmental stewardship and sustainability. Additionally, Mountain View Montessori is dedicated to the sustainability of our earth’s natural resources through teaching and practicing conscious choices in our classrooms and school community. Reduce, reuse, recycle, clean naturally and garden organically are regular daily practices.  We support our students and families to be active participants in optimum environmental management, education and communication. See our website www.mountainviewmontessori.com for more information on our Conscious Living Program."
