Proven Energy wind turbines, the most robust small scale wind turbines in the world have recently been installed on the Isle of Eigg, 10 miles off the coast of Scotland.
This is the first time the island, which has 87 inhabitants, has had a mains connection as most homes previously relied on generators.
The installation was part of the Eigg Electrification project and saw a number of mixed solution renewable sources working together to provide an off-grid, renewable energy solution to the remote location.
This will allow Eigg to enter a new age of electrification while being environmentally friendly and ensuring the reduction of CO2 emissions. This will also enable the island to benefit from the lucrative green tourism market.
Four Proven 6kW wind turbines on 15m towers each connected to SMA Windy Boy WB-6000A inverters are sited at the Southern end of the island where the best wind exposure is obtained. These were installed by Energy Renewed a local Proven Energy installer based in Aberdeen
Proven Energy has a wealth of experience in providing wind turbines to offer solutions to remote islands and archipelagos with clients across the world from the Falkland Islands to the Shetland Islands.
